HydroBLADES takes Tavares 03/15/08

Kwan Lowe:
"As the boats returned to the docks to unload, I was elated and proud to be a member of the HydroBLADES team. And I was humbled. My teammates emerged from the boat with their bodies exhausted and near collapse, their legs trembling, their eyes red with emotion. They had given so much of themselves in the race that their bodies were in physical distress. Our captain had spoken of this; he'd said that he wanted us to "leave it all in the boat." It's one thing to hear it. It's another thing entirely to see your fellow paddlers almost unable to stand because of how much they'd given for the team.

That is the abiding memory I will take back to practice..."

Greetings from Cabo!

Hello everyone! We're in Cabo San Lucas now and killing time before our flight back home today. Wanted to share the good news with everyone! Jeanette and I are engaged!!! Here are the details of how it happened

I was thinking to myself all weekend how was I gonna pop the question. It didn't help that Jeanette was filling a bit under the weather. I knew I wanted ask her on the beach.. We went to a nice lobster dinner near the marina where I was only allowed in with their approved shirt. We both had tank-tops but somehow I was the only who was asked to change to a shirt??? Anyways, I could tell that she was tired. After the dinner, we took a walk along the marina and took some pictures. In my mind, this reminded me of one of our first dates in Redondo Beach.

After the walk, we waited for a ride back to the hotel where shortly after we both fell asleep. It was only after the driver drove over a big speed bump that we woke up. (There is no apparent speed limit here in mexico) We were both really sweaty and exhausted as we went back to the room. I had to somehow convince Jeanette to take a walk with me on the beach. I could tell from her voice that she was less than enthusiastic to go. I convinced her by saying "It's only 9:30 back in LA. we're not that old!"

She agreed and as we walked on the beach, it was really dark and the waves were really strong. The sand was also very hard. Not the ideal setting. But I was determined to stick to the plan. After a short walk, we sat on the beach for a while then I went into my camera bag and pulled out the ring. She was truly surprised when I picked that moment to get ask her to marry me. She said "You know what my answer is.." I asked her again... The rest is history...

Signing off,

Khanh and Jeanette
